The John L. Webb Correctional Facility (WCF) is a Level IV facility (prison) for men located in Wilmington (Prices Corner), Delaware. WCF opened in 1932. WCF is a minimum-security facility. WCF houses a sentenced population.

WCF

  • Was originally known as "The Old Women's Prison at Prices Corner", it was the first institution in the State for female offenders. The facility then became part of the New Castle County Workhouse. This facility was renovated in the early 1970s after the construction of the Delaware Correctional Center (DCC). In 1975, the facility then became known as the Pre-Trial Annex of DCC, a facility to house 75 inmates awaiting trial. On December 9, 1994, the name of the facility was officially changed from the Pre-Trial Annex to the John L. Webb Correctional Facility. This name change came about as a result of a Senate Joint Resolution signed by then Governor Thomas R. Carper to honor John L. Webb.
  • Is named for John L. Webb. Mr. Webb was the first African-American Correctional Officer and the first African-American male to hold the position of Warden in the State of Delaware. He began his DOC career in 1954 and held various positions until his retirement as Warden in 1990.
